How much does it cost to hydro jet a sewer line?
Roughly $350 to $800 for a straightforward residential sewer line. $600 to $1,200 or more where access is poor, the run is long, or roots are heavy. Commercial kitchens run higher.
Several things drive the number: whether there is an accessible cleanout, pipe diameter and length, how far the truck can park from the work, and whether a camera inspection is bundled or billed separately. Commercial kitchen lines run higher because of volume and scheduling.
Emergency and after-hours calls add a premium almost everywhere, Long Beach included. Ask for a flat quote after the inspection rather than an hourly rate, and confirm whether the price covers a second pass if the first one does not fully clear the line.
What Moves the Price
| Factor | Effect on the Quote |
|---|---|
| Access | The single biggest factor. An exterior two-way cleanout at grade is the cheap case. No cleanout means pulling a toilet or going through a roof vent. No cleanout plus a slab foundation can mean cutting one in, which is a separate line item. |
| Length and diameter | A 40-foot lateral is not the same job as a 90-foot run to an alley easement. Larger diameter needs higher flow, which means a bigger machine. |
| Parking distance | Jetter hose has a working length. Narrow lots and alley-access properties around Downtown and Alamitos Beach regularly add setup time. |
| Pipe condition | Heavy root masses need a mechanical cutter pass first. That is labour, and occasionally a second trip. |
| Camera included or not | Some quotes bundle a pre- and post-inspection, others bill it separately. Compare quotes on the same basis or the cheaper one is not cheaper. |
| Timing | Nights, weekends and holidays carry a premium nearly everywhere. |
What to Confirm Before You Agree
Ask four questions and the comparison gets easy. Is this a flat quote or hourly? Hourly on an unknown line transfers all the risk to you. Does the price include a camera pass before and after? Without the post-pass nobody can prove the line is clean. If the first pass does not clear it, is a second pass included or billed? And is the quote firm after the inspection, or an estimate that can move?
Get it in writing. A reputable shop has no problem with that.
Why the Cheapest Quote Often Is Not
A deeply discounted drain special is cabling. It may well be the right service for your clog, but it is not jetting and it will not clean a coated wall. The gap between that and a real jetting quote is equipment, water volume and the camera, and the difference shows up in whether you are calling again in six months.
Current local pricing, what is bundled, and the access scenarios that change it are broken down in our Long Beach drain cleaning cost guide. Quotes are flat and given after the inspection.
