Is hydro jetting worth it?
Usually, if the alternative is cabling the same line every few months. Cabling makes an opening; jetting removes the buildup. Not worth it for one bathroom sink clog, or on a line already failing structurally.
Cabling punches a hole through a blockage. Jetting scours the pipe wall back to bare material, so the clog takes much longer to rebuild. For grease, sludge, scale and fine roots, that difference is the whole point. It is also the only cleaning method that leaves a line clean enough for a camera to read properly, which matters if you are buying a house or deciding on a repair.
Where it is not worth it: a single hair clog in a bathroom sink, or a lateral already failing badly enough to need replacement. In those cases you are paying jetting prices for a result a cheaper service would match.
Running the Numbers Honestly
Say cabling a recurring kitchen line costs $150 and buys six months, while jetting the same line costs $500 and buys three years. Over three years that is roughly $900 in cable visits against $500 once, plus five fewer appointments you had to be home for and five fewer backups.
Flip the inputs and the answer flips. A bathroom sink that clogged once from hair does not need a jetter. A thirty dollar hand auger and ten minutes solves it permanently, and paying several hundred instead buys nothing extra.
The One Question That Decides It
Is the problem a blockage or a coating? Blockages are objects: a toy, a wipe, a dense root plug. Coatings are grease, soap scum, mineral scale, sludge and fine root hair on the wall. Jetting is specifically good at coatings, and a cable only travels through the middle of them.
Where It Earns Its Money
Recurring Kitchen or Laundry Backups
Almost always grease or detergent buildup, and the clearest case for jetting there is.
Before Buying a House
A jetted and cameraed lateral tells you whether you are inheriting a routine maintenance item or a five-figure replacement. On pre-war Long Beach stock that is cheap leverage during escrow.
Before Committing to a Repair
You cannot grade pipe condition through a coating. Clean first, then decide, or you risk paying for a liner that was not needed, or skipping one that was.
Commercial Kitchens
Not really optional. Flow volume and grease load make cabling pointless within weeks.
Where It Is the Wrong Purchase
A single-fixture clog with no history. An Orangeburg or channeled cast iron line that is going to be replaced within the year, where cleaning is just delay. And any situation where a company is selling jetting without having looked inside the pipe, because then nobody knows what is being bought.
What is bundled, what the camera pass covers, and what we charge are all on the hydro jetting service and pricing page. If the inspection says cabling is enough, we will tell you that instead.
